Rock Creek Fishing Report 8/12/2019

CFS: 398

Water Temp: 54-58°F

Dries: Spruce Moths, Terrestrials, Mayflies, Caddis, Attractors, Crippled Emergers

Nymphs: Princes, Hare’s Ears, Pheasant Tails, Streamers

After two very hot weeks, a cold weather system passed through Montana and dumped a bunch of rain, which has brought up the streamflows, but more importantly lowered water temps:

Until the streamflow and water temperature stay steady on the chart, the dry fly fishing might be spotty, so nymphing will be your best bet for the time being. The forecast for the next week suggests moderate temperatures, and I expect the fishing to be very good during this time frame. On days we get into the 80s, try terrestrials with droppers, and on the cooler days (or mornings and evenings) go for the smaller dries, like caddis, PMDs, etc.

It‘s rare to get conditions like these in August, so come fish the nice, colder water!
