Rock Creek Fishing Report – 3/26/19

CFS: 401

Water Temp: 37 ° F

Bugs: Stonefly nymphs, Lightning bugs, Hare’s ears

Hello fisher friends! It’s been a long winter up here in Rock Creek, but like the rest of Montana, we are starting to feel the thaw! While there still isn’t much dry fly fishing to be had, we’ve had a number of hungry fish taking nymph patterns like stonefly nymphs, lightning bugs, and hare’s ears. The best times to go our are from early to late afternoon. I would stay on either the lower end near us or the upper end near Philipsburg until the road in the middle sections of the creek thaw out a little more.

Next month, we will see hatches of March Browns and Skwala stoneflies. Next to the salmon flies and spruce moths, this can be some of the best dry fly fishing of the year on Rock Creek. At this point, the fish haven’t seen an artificial dry fly in months and aren’t overly hesitant to strike at the surface.

For whatever reason, all my previous fishing reports and Mercipedia posts got deleted (thanks Wix!), so unfortunately I have to start from scratch with these reports. If you have any questions though, please feel free to send us an e-mail at rcmerc@blackfoot.net or call us at 406-825-6440, and we will be happy to answer them. We’ve got some new and exciting products this year that I can’t wait for people to see and try out. Here’s to another fun year of fishing on Rock Creek!
